Realising the World of E. G. Allen using selfies and AI

Who best suits the role of a particular character from the book?

Is it YOU we are looking for?

The BANKRUPT Living Scene Project

The Challenge: Bring the Scene to Life

We're inviting you to step into the world of BANKRUPT like never before. The Living Scene Project challenges readers and artists to combine their own likeness with cutting-edge AI image generation to create stunning, realistic depictions of key moments from the novel.

Your Mission: Use a personal selfie and the AI tool of your choice to place yourself into a specific, recognizable scene from BANKRUPT. The final image must clearly feature you as the character in that environment.

The Goal: To showcase the incredible creative potential of merging human identity with artificial intelligence, creating images that feel truly alive. We are searching for images that possess a striking coherence—where the human element and the AI-generated scene blend seamlessly.

Why the Selfie?

The Purpose of Your Likeness

Why a selfie? Why can't you just use generic AI art?

The characters in BANKRUPT are intentionally written to be deeply human and evocative. Our goal for this project is not just "fan art"; it's a quest for "human authenticity" within the digital medium.

Aesthetic Coherence: We are testing the limits of how AI tools can use a real human face to ground a scene's setting and tension, ensuring the character’s motivation and psychological state feel authentic and nuanced, rather than generic or synthetic.

Archival & Future Potential: Submissions that achieve this unique blend of authenticity and coherence will be carefully reviewed. We are building a unique visual archive of reader interpretations. While the immediate goal is selecting images for a Special Collector's Edition of the book, this archive may inform the development of future creative projects related to the BANKRUPT universe.

We require the selfie as an essential component for this aesthetic and technical experiment.

Terms & Conditions: Image Rights and Usage

1. General Promotional Use (Automatic Upon Submission)

By submitting your image to the Living Scene Project, you grant the organiser Allen G Chaplin a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to:

Display the image on our official project website and social media channels (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.) for promotional purposes related to the project and the book BANKRUPT.

Modify the image only to crop, resize, or add watermarks/overlays for display purposes.

We will not use your image for any other commercial purpose or future project, including training any AI model, without obtaining your separate, explicit written permission.

2. Commercial Use and Licensing Fee

We intend to select a number of outstanding submissions for inclusion in a Special Collector's Edition of BANKRUPT.

If your image is selected for this, or any other commercial product or future project (including digital media, merchandising, etc.), we will contact you directly to request your explicit, written permission and to discuss a fair licensing fee for the use of your work.

You retain all original copyright to your submission and are under no obligation to grant us commercial usage rights if contacted.

Future Potential: The Visual Archive

Submissions that achieve an exceptional level of aesthetic coherence and demonstrate strong character resonance will be retained in an internal, secure visual archive. This archive is an essential part of our ongoing research into advanced methods for AI character integration. You may request that your Artwork be deleted from this archive at any time.

This material may also be considered for informing the visual development of characters in a wide array of forthcoming projects, specifically within our plans for future digital-media asset pipelines within the broader BANKRUPT IP. These projects include any potential interactive, dynamic, or cinematic adaptations being explored for the BANKRUPT universe.

Participants whose submissions show the most promising results may be contacted for early engagement and consultation on these exploratory projects.

Uploads

Filename Convention (IMPORTANT)

Please do not upload files with original AI generated filenames like this:

Gemini_Generated_Image_c8b3dsc8b3dsc8b3.png

Rename your file to make it clear it is yours and which page inspired you. It should look like this:

Page_999_ EMailAddress.[png, jpg, gif]

Page_123_myname@mydomain.com.png

This tells us at a glance which page you used to inspire you and who sent it. It also makes it easier for us to sort and compare submissions for determining appropriate entries.

Your upload will be ignored if it doesn’t use this filename convention.

The Living Scene Project Details

Check your details

Before uploading your Image, make sure you have the correct page number from the book. If the image contains a number of people, please indicate in the message box which one is you.

E-Mail Address

An E-Mail Address is required. There is a verification process, requiring you to respond to an E-Mail. You are in effect subscribing to the project. The E-Mail Address is used to identify you as the owner of the image and provide contact information. We do not need any other personal information.

Image Files

Make sure you have the correct image file. Do not forget to rename the file to reflect the page number and owner. It’s a good idea to double-check this. If we receive an image which does not appear to be the correct image, does not adhere to the filename convention or is inappropriate, it will simply be deleted. You will NOT be notified if this happens.

You may upload three images in total as submissions. These need to be uploaded individually in three separate steps. These should each refer to different pages. Each upload will require verification. Any further uploads will be ignored.

Withdrawing from the contest

You can ask to have your submissions withdrawn at any time. This will result in your E-Mail data and any associated image(s) being deleted from our system. We will also endeavour to delete your image(s) from instagram and (if applicable) facebook as quickly as possible.
